To practice with purpose, integrity, openness and just the right amount of challenge and humor is the cornerstone of Sally’s teaching, as is her ability to meet her students where they are. Her focus on alignment, safety, breath and mindfulness creates an environment that allows her students to find their ideal in each exercise. Her favorite mantra is “patience, compassion and kindness.” She encourages her students to keep this mantra present during their practice and in their daily lives.
Sally hails originally from Cleveland, Ohio and has had the good fortune of living in some very special places including Toronto, Ontario; Tokyo, Japan; Killington, Vermont; Bronxville, New York, and eventually here on Cape Cod. As a result, Sally has a deep love of travel. She settled in Harwich and raised her son Justin here. He is now grown and off, creating his own life. Sally misses him terribly and travels often to see him.
Sally explored a number of careers including human services, working seven years at Latham School, managing the Chatham Candy Manor and waitressing at various restaurants. In 1982, the fitness bug bit her and she began teaching aerobics classes in a local gym (before certifications were available, much less required). She has been certified with the American Council on Exercise for Group Exercise (1991), and Personal Training (1996). Beginning in 1989, Sally taught at Willy’s Gym for 25 years. For 15 of those years, she was the director of the group exercise program in the Orleans location.
Sally’s teaching repertoire includes Dance Fitness, Step, Spinning, Cardio Bosu Balance, Aqua Fitness, Stand Up Paddle Board and Yoga, to name a few. Sally holds a Level I Flat Water Paddle Board Certification with PSUPA, Level II certification in Total Motion Release, a 200-hour yoga certification with Quiet Mind Yoga – an Iyengar based yoga practice – as well as certificates of completion for Bosu, Anatomy Trains, and further education in yoga, spinning, etc.
In 2015, Lyn Wilkinson, owner and principal at The Pilates School, encouraged Sally to add Pilates to her routine. She began her certification process in the fall of 2015, and completed her 500-hour Level III Comprehensive Peak Pilates Certification July of 2018.
Sally studies with Lyn Wilkinson, Carolina Alcantara, Pam Garcia, Carrie Pfenning, Jon Owen and Junghee Won.
